OBD-2 Mode-06 Translator 1.0

(Note: This APP runs fine on Android phones and tablets. This APP is a companion to any OBD-2 scanner. This APP decodes Mode-06 on CAN systems, Some 2003-2006 and all 2007-Up models (any make and model sold in the US.)

HOW TO USE THE OBD2 MODE-06 TRANSLATOR APP

Mode 06 on OBD-2 systems was created to allow engineers to see if a particular system was failing before the monitors had ran. Monitors are small tests that OBD-2 runs on each system (EGR, O2 sensor, Converter, etc) to see if the system is failing. It takes a long time for these tests/monitors to run, sometimes hours or even days. So the power of mode 06 is to allow for quick diagnostics and proofing of your repair.

Here are the highlights of mode 06 and why it's so popular:

1) Allows you to see if your repair was done right almost right away.
2) After the repair is done, go for a short road test (that's all).
3) Use an inexpensive scan tool to view mode 06. Most scanners have this feature.
4) Mode 06 allows you to view dozens of ECM tests results right away.
5) Mode 06 was developed as an encrypted ($hex) coded diagnostic system.
6) Mode 06 was never meant for the masses, unless it is translated.

Here is how to use the OBD-2 Mode 06 Translator APP. There are two ways to use Mode-06 with this APP.

ONE: Is to look at your scanner's capabilities and see if it gives you PASS/FAIL results for Mode-06. If it does then you're halfway there. That means that the scan tool did 50% of the work for you. With a PASS/FAIL type scanner, the unit has already looked at the Min. and Max. values, saw the Current value and made a determination
as to the test result.

TWO: Is to determine the test Min. and Max. values (Given by this APP) and compare them to the Current value. This type of scanner is usually seen as a USB-Interface PC based scanner (i.e. ELM327 type). It is also used by someone accessing the deep ($hex) hexadecimal numbers given by the ECM OBD-2 connector.

So if your scanner is PASS/FAIL then great, disregard the (Current Value) translator section. Just concentrate on
the MIDs and TIDs pull-down buttons. They'll translate the MODE-06 data for you and then all you do is look at the
PASS/FAIL score.

If your scanner outputs the $Hex numbers, then all you do is compare them to the Min. and Max. values given by this APP.

To use this APP after repairs are done (or during repairs), go for a short road test to allow the ECM to run the mode 06 test it normally does. On some repairs that don't require for you to drive the car (i.e. O2 Sensor Heater) then a road test is not needed. Just start your vehicle and wait at least 10 minutes with the engine at idle. Than do your magic with this (OBD-2 Mode 06 Translator APP).
